APPLE INTELLIGENCE. IN THE HANDS OF THE GP.

Care that
keeps going.

Even when the clinic goes offline.

An iPhone in the GP’s hand. An iPad for the patient. A Mac mini at the heart of the clinic. SteadyCare brings them together for check-in, cited answers and reviewed notes — with Apple Intelligence running on device.

  1. The patient checks in. They speak or type, review the extracted answers and send them to the clinic Mac.
  2. The GP asks the record. Relevant excerpts support an answer, with quotations and dates to check.
  3. The consultation becomes a draft. Recording starts with agreement. Transcription and drafting run on device. The GP reviews before approving.
  4. The Mac becomes unreachable. The GP’s iPhone can still open the briefs and excerpts already saved in its day pack. With Apple Intelligence ready on that iPhone, it can answer from those saved excerpts.
  5. Work reconnects. Pending notes and recordings wait on the iPhone, then save back when the Mac is available.

This is a text description of the demonstrated workflow. The video also describes the project’s direction: import from practice exports today; direct write-back is a future step.

A BETTER FLOW THROUGH THE VISIT

More time with the patient.
Less time finding the story.

01

The patient tells
their story.

A patient picks up the clinic iPad, speaks or types, and reviews their answers before sending. The iPad is ready for the next patient after check-in. No patient account or password.

The GP gets the patient’s own words before they sit down.

02

The GP sees
the context.

On the GP’s iPhone, today’s check-in sits beside allergies and previous visits from the Mac mini. Ask the record, read a summary, and open a source to check the original words and date.

An answer you can check against the record.

03

The conversation
becomes a note.

With the patient’s agreement, the GP records on iPhone. The clinic Mac transcribes and drafts the consultation. The GP reviews, corrects and approves before it becomes part of the record.

The doctor decides what becomes part of the record.

SHOW YOUR WORK

“Where did
that come from?”
Right here.

The GP asks from their iPhone. SteadyCare uses the patient’s available record excerpts to answer, with source quotations the doctor can open and check.

The original words stay available. A generated answer does not silently change the patient’s record.

THE CONNECTION DROPS. THE VISIT CONTINUES.

The Mac is offline.
The GP isn’t
starting from zero.

While connected, the GP’s iPhone saves a day pack of today’s queue, patient briefs and record excerpts. When the Mac becomes unreachable, that context is still in the doctor’s hand.

The Mac is unreachable.
Today’s saved context is still on iPhone.
  1. Before the outage

    Today’s context, already saved.

The iPhone keeps the briefs and excerpts it received from the Mac.

  2. During the outage

    Read. Ask. Capture the visit.

Saved briefs stay open. A compatible iPhone with Apple Intelligence ready can answer from those excerpts and draft an outage note.

  3. When the Mac returns

    Bring the work back.

GP-approved outage notes and pending recordings save back to the Mac when it is reachable again.

Offline access depends on a day pack saved in advance. New patient check-ins need the Mac. AI needs a compatible device with its model downloaded.

GUIDE & QUESTIONS

A closer look at SteadyCare.

How it works, what you need, and where your information goes — all in one place.

For patients

Getting started, checking in and using your own device.

How does check-in work?

On iPhone, the patient chooses I’m a patient. A conversation fills the enrolment form. They can speak or type, review each section, skip optional questions, and correct an answer before it is sent.

The same Mac also serves a check-in page on the clinic network, at the address shown in the app. Either way, the visit reaches the queue only after the Mac receives it.

There is no patient account. Each iPhone keeps its own draft for that clinic session.

What can patients do on their iPhone?

The patient can hear a question read aloud. That is off until they turn it on. A language menu can translate on the device. On the medication question, they can scan a medicine box with the camera. Apple Health readings can be added only for the types they choose, read-only.

Those extras need the iPhone app, a real device for the camera and for Apple Intelligence, and the clinic Mac on the same network for the record itself.

Do patients or doctors need an account?

No SteadyCare account. Patients are not given a password. The GP iPhone is paired to the clinic Mac with a short-lived code, then unlocked with the device.

Can I use it on iPad?

Yes. The companion app runs on iPhone and iPad. The Mac remains the place the record is kept, and it has to be open on the same local network.

For the GP

From today’s queue to a reviewed note.

How does the GP manage the queue?

The Mac opens on the GP workspace. Today’s patients are listed by arrival: Waiting, In consult, Done. Search finds a name. A new check-in can raise a notification on the Mac; the queue still works if you decline notifications.

The GP iPhone joins the same clinic with a one-use code from the Mac. Scan the code or paste it, then confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or the device passcode. Sign out all connected devices on the Mac revokes those sessions.

What is in a patient brief?

Open a patient and you get identity, the allergy, today’s words, what is on record, and recent visits. The check-in stays available in the patient’s own words.

Imported history is linked only after you confirm the identity. A Medicare number match does not merge two people by itself.

How are summaries made?

Nothing is written in the background. Choose Summarise and the Mac drafts from the record already on the machine, using Apple Intelligence.

Follow-ups from the last visit are matched to today’s check-in: mentioned today, or not mentioned today. Each point carries a source, labelled GP-entered or Patient-reported, with the date. Open the source to read the sentence.

The draft restates the record. It does not diagnose or recommend treatment. Read it before you rely on it.

How does Ask the record work?

Ask the record answers from this patient’s record and shows the sources. On the GP iPhone, the same kind of answer can run from today’s downloaded briefs when Apple Intelligence is available on that iPhone. If the iPhone cannot run the model, the Mac answers while it is reachable.

Answers are for the visit in front of you. Copy what you want to keep into the note. A question does not change the record by itself.

How does the GP save and finish a visit?

The GP note is yours. Save it, and choose Finish visit when the consult is done. Pending edits and recordings are kept if the connection drops, and they replay to the Mac rather than disappearing.

Recording & AI

What runs on the device, and what the doctor reviews.

How is a consultation recorded?

Recording never starts on its own. Confirm the patient’s agreement, then start. Pause, resume, and finish are explicit. From the iPhone, the recording is sent to the Mac, and the iPhone drops its copy only after the Mac has it.

Apple’s on-device speech tools transcribe on the Mac. A draft follows. Correct the transcript or leave it. Corrections clear the previous draft, so you review again. Approve is what lets that summary into the record. Until then it stays out of later summaries and questions.

If the Mac is unreachable, a finished recording can be transcribed and drafted on the GP iPhone. After you approve it, the note is marked as recorded during a clinic outage and saved to the Mac on the next connection. The audio still uploads when the Mac is back.

Can it tell speakers apart?

Separating speakers is optional and off until you set it up. The Mac can download a third-party model once and run it locally. You then label the voices Doctor, Patient or Other.

If separation fails, the transcript remains. Audio is not uploaded for this step. Apple still does the transcription and the summary.

Does it work without Apple Intelligence?

Check-in, the queue, and the raw record do. Summaries, Ask the record, and on-device drafts need Apple Intelligence, with the model downloaded for the language. If a model is unavailable, the record is still there and you can type the note.

Records & privacy

Where information lives and how this prototype fits in.

Can I import existing patient records?

Import a patient list and past notes from CSV. Search by first name, last name, or Medicare number. The import is a copy on this Mac. SteadyCare does not write back into a practice system, and it does not connect to My Health Record. A My Health Record choice on the form is stored as a preference only.

Where does the information go?

The main record stays on the clinic Mac. iPhones talk to that Mac over the clinic network. This build does not encrypt that traffic. Do not put real patient records on it.

Is this the practice record?

No. It does not replace the practice system, it does not order tests or prescriptions, and it does not submit anything to Medicare or My Health Record. You approve what, if anything, you keep.

WHAT YOU’RE SEEING TODAY

A working prototype.
A clear next step.

Built for a hackathon, using synthetic patients. The clinic Mac mini needs Apple silicon and macOS 26 or later. AI features need Apple Intelligence and downloaded models on the device doing the work.

The current clinic connection is not encrypted. This demonstration is not a clinical system of record and must not hold real patient information. Generated summaries need human review.
